Rosthern is a town situated at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 312 in central Saskatchewan, approximately equidistant between the cities of Prince Albert and Saskatoon.
Mennonite settlers, under the leadership of Gerhard Ens, began arriving in the area around 1890. The establishment of a post office in 1893 marked the community's beginnings, and by 1898, it had attained village status. By 1903, Rosthern had grown sufficiently to be incorporated as a town.
The town derives its name from a homesick railroad worker who longed for Rostherne, a village in the United Kingdom.
Rosthern offers various amenities, including a public library, numerous parks, walking trails, and Valley Regional Park, which features an 18-hole grass green golf course, two ball diamonds, two indoor hockey rinks, a curling rink, a bowling alley, and three school gyms. An outdoor swimming pool, completed in 2005, adds to the town's recreational offerings. Additionally, the community is home to the Youth Farm Bible Camp.
Nearby attractions include the Seager Wheeler Farm, designated a National Historic Site of Canada, and the Rosthern Mennonite Heritage Museum, established around 1909-1910. Both sites hold significance as Municipal Heritage Properties listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places.
Valley Regional Park, established in 1974, lies approximately 2 kilometers northeast of town on the western shore of Rempel Lake. The park boasts an 18-hole golf course, campground, picnic area, 100-foot slide, and 80-foot zip line, providing ample recreational opportunities for visitors. The campground offers about 80 campsites equipped with modern washrooms and showers.
