About this community
Aberdeen, situated just 18 minutes northeast of Saskatoon, is a quaint community boasting a population of 716 residents.
Between June 2006 and September 2022, the community witnessed the construction of 76 new homes. This development encompasses seven new residences built on the former curling rink site, in-fill projects along Norman Avenue, Jackson Avenue, 6th Avenue, and 4th Avenue, as well as subdivisions like Hamm Court, Graham Court, and McDonald Street.
The history of the town dates back to as early as 1900 when the land, originally named Dueck, was settled. In 1904, it was organized as the hamlet of Aberdeen, paying homage to Ishbel Maria Marjoribanks Gordon, Lady Aberdeen, the founder of the National Council of Women of Canada.
The arrival of the CN railway in 1904 marked a significant milestone, and by 1907, the community had met the requirement of 15 occupied dwellings to attain village status.
According to Henderson's Western Canada Gazetteer and Directory, the town's population had surged to 300 by 1907.
On November 1, 1988, the Village was officially declared the "Town of Aberdeen." By the time of the 1986 Census conducted by Statistics Canada, the population stood at 515 residents.
